When Racing Victoria’s Capital Projects team needed to resurface the raceday stalls at Sale Racecourse, they needed more than just new rubber. They needed a product that could handle daily training use, go down over mixed substrates, and be installed without shutting the place down. DoubleStud did the job.
The Project
Sale Turf Club’s raceday stalls had reached end-of-life. The existing matting across the stall complex was worn out and due for a full replacement. Racing Victoria initiated the capital works programme and brought us in through their Capital Projects team.
The scope was straightforward: rip out the old, lay in the new, and keep disruption to trainers to a minimum.
What We Installed
Product: DoubleStud Equine rubber matting
Volume: 778 mats across 5 stall blocks and wash bays
Substrates across the stall blocks were a mix of concrete and asphalt. Where the asphalt needed it, areas were patched with a cement-based product before matting went down — no shortcuts on the base.
Keeping the Stalls Running
The stalls at Sale are in active use every day for horse training. That meant the install had to work around the trainers, not the other way around.
The club staged the removal one row at a time, one day ahead of our install crew. Old mats out today, new mats down tomorrow. No block went out of commission while another sat waiting. It required tight coordination between the club, Racing Victoria, and our team — and it worked.
Install was completed in four days on site in March 2026.
