Cressfield Stud: three years on, the walker matting still looks new

Custom-cut Kura matting for the horse walker at Cressfield Stud

The real test of a walker surface is not how it looks the day it goes down. It is how it looks three years and a few thousand laps later. Cressfield Stud is one of the better-known thoroughbred studs in the country, and the horse walker there has been running on Kura matting since 2023. Nathan called in last week to see how it had held up. It still looks as good as new, the only upkeep being a quick clear of tree bark.

Numat supplied the Kura as full-width rubber in interlocking sections, water-jet cut to the exact dimensions of the walker. The interlocks sit tight enough that you can hardly pick where the joins are. Cut right, the matting goes down as one clean surface rather than a run of loose pieces.

The Cressfield team laid it in themselves using their own maintenance team, with the entire project only taking a few days, thanks to the mats being supplied custom cut to the required size.

Three years of horses moving over it has not changed much. No lifting, no thinning, no patches gone hard. A walker surface that still passes inspection after that long is doing exactly what it was bought to do.

That is the case for rubber that lasts. Buy once, lay it right, and let it work for years rather than going round again every couple of seasons.

Get your walker sized

If your horse walker is running on worn or lifting matting, the fix starts with a measure-up.

Nathan will get the exact dimensions, cut Kura to suit, and deliver it ready for your team to lay.
