Every morning, high-value thoroughbreds walk lap after lap on the Tony Gollan walker at Eagle Farm Racecourse. The matting under them had worn through to bare concrete. Thin, compressed, and giving the horses next to nothing in cushioning or grip. For a stable working horses of that value every day, that is a real welfare and injury risk. The vets who inspect the facility wanted it sorted. Kura did the job.
The Project
The Brisbane Racing Club runs two of Queensland’s premier thoroughbred venues, Eagle Farm and Doomben. Tony Gollan, one of the state’s most successful trainers, bases his stables at Eagle Farm. His walker runs horses through it every morning, and the old matting had reached the end of its life.
Nathan attended site on the morning of 31 October 2025 to measure up. The proposal was back with the club the same day. The order followed, and the new matting went in over the weeks after.

Every mat was custom cut to the exact radius of the walker before it left the factory. No trimming on site, no gaps, no raised edges for a horse to catch. Concrete fixings to suit came with it, delivered straight to Eagle Farm.
Fitted by the club’s own team
No specialist trades. No contractors to book in. The Brisbane Racing Club’s facility team laid the mats themselves, working off the custom-cut pieces and the supplied anchors. A professional finish, fitted in-house, with the walker back in work fast.
The Result
The club’s veterinary team approved the matting on inspection after install, and the stables team were happy with it. That sign-off matters, because the vets were the ones pushing for the fix in the first place.
